it's the end of the world as I know it.
it seems that the smog polution in the Montreal area this winter has been so bad, that some tree hugging , narrow minded SOB has decided to pass a bylaw out lawing wood stoves and fireplaces in new constuction in the Montreal area, now this in my mind is the beggining of the end for wood cooking. the law hasn't included wood cooking sofar , but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before my lil backyard smoking will me an illegal act, and I'll have to slip the cops a rib or two to look the other way, this could interfear with my meal time lol

Ouch, Don!! That sounds like it might hit ya soon but for now, smoke on!!

Sounds like a shoe-in for some emission control laws that will require you to pay/buy some device and have to pay to have it certified on a regular basis. Look out...

Thats not to happy for the future there. Well, good luck to you up there. You know from time to time down here in the states in different areas they try to do some of the same ideas. Back I don't know exactly when they started making wood stoves and fireplace inserts more environmentally friendly. It was good and bad. You can't really enjoy the snap, crackle and pop unless you go and buy a Ben Franklin type or something similar. On the good side, those newer environmentally friendly units are a lot more efficient. Most of them have some type of blower on them, and recirculate the gases with a catalytic system on top, so they put out more heat. Anyhow, either way you look at when the govvernment comes regulating and all, its just a money grab for users fees through permits and licenses.
