I think I may have discovered a new hobby. Much to Ann's dismay!!

Good morning all!
So, while looking around for gifts for the grandkids. The military exchange had deals on legos and other lego like kits.

Had these on sale for 12.00. Grabbed two. Though after putting mine together. I think I should have read the instructions. 334 pieces. And recommended for 13 and up. I think Gideons dad will be putting his together! I really enjoyed building this. Anyone else do legos?

My kid absolutely loves putting together legos. It’s good exercise for the brain. The only downside is the little buggars are super expensive here. Tell your wife that your new hobby could be much much worse 🤣

I'll break out lego every now and then and build with my son. He's fortunate in that he inherited the lego my wife and I had as kids. Mine is a tad over 41 years old now, but it all still works with today's lego which is pretty amazing really.

Not me. Too much like doing a jigsaw puzzle for me, or reading a book. The only time I did stuff like that as an adult was when I was trapped on ships at sea with nothing else to do...before smart phones and internet.

BUT, my 36 year old daughter uses Legos for "therapy" and loves it. She occupies herself with that and cooking rather than drink or get high, etc...which is a good thing! (she doesn't live with us)

She has won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals, banners, whatever they are (I've only been to one competition, I can only take so much geeking out about Legos!) in Regional Brix competitions specializing in lighted displays.

We have pics somewhere of those builds but all I had on my phone was the twisted Christmas builds she sent me pics of. She did those just for fun, not competition.

Here's one of a Christmas kitchen fire:

Just watch your step. Those suckers hurt to step on them even with socks on!

Ah, I see you have time on your hands.... not something the wife needs to find out though. No need to ask me why I know this 🤣

I had a huge Lego kit as a kid. Loved them. Not sure my patience , or lack thereof would allow me to assemble something now. It's a huge hobby though. Love the little diecast Hot Wheel too. I wish I'd have kept my collection of mint redline Hot Wheels. I had over a 100 many of which would be worth hundreds today.

My kids had tons of them. We gave them to the grandkids. I used to like building with them.

You could definitely have worse hobbies Steve. At my job there are a lot of folks into Lego’s and during our white elephant Christmas exchange… they are highly sought after! I am not into them personally, but to each their own.

For what it’s worth our Dept Manager done some things for us when we hit a milestone back in mid ‘24. One of which was she purchased a Lego Star Wars Millennium Falcon with a stand! That was the biggest Lego I’d ever seen and have to admit… it was interesting to see the progress of those putting it together! The thing is massive… and to think it’s all Lego’s is something else! So, again this thing was huge… I know nothing about Lego’s and their value… but a few mentioned that particular one was $900 and said not to damage the box when unboxing it… as the box alone was worth $300. Not sure if that’s true or not, but them folks seem to know their Lego’s!

Again, just enjoy if that what you like! I like putting together model cars when I have the time… especially older stock cars. My favorite was a 1987 Bill Elliott #9 Coors Ford Thunderbird! “Awesome Bill From Dawsonville”
It was my first and loved putting that together…

Looks great! Nah. I lived in the age of ball and jax. Now those little land mines hurt!

The amount of items you can find on the internet with Lego's now is nothing short of amazing. My son was trying to build a one cylinder vacuum engine with a valve and throttle that he seen on YouTube. He had it almost there and it would run. I helped him with it and got it zipping along. After that we made a 3 cylinder engine.

Far cry from what I used to make as a kid.

Love Lego's. When I was a kid always was messing with them, then about 15 years ago I got on a kick and was buying and building Lego City sets. After awhile it fell off, they are collecting dust right now. When the others wake I will go snap a pic or two as they are upstairs in a "storage bedroom".

Wish I didn't see this thread as it might provoke me to start up again!

I find them fascinating and really love seeing the creative side of people's minds, but I'm not one of them. Have a nephew that is/was really good with Legos and has a bunch of different sets.

Most fascinating part for me was a visit to Legoland in Florida years ago and seeing all the different full size and bigger things built with them...

I went to that awhile back. Cool place!
