Hello i just joined this website and my name is Shawn. This is my first attempt to smoke a turkey. My question is i found a brine recipe and a injection recipe that i want to use together. Both recipes are almost similar to each other by one or two ingredients. Is it ok to use them together r no? I will be using a masterbuilt propane smoker and the temperature will be at 250 degrees for a 17 pound turkey and i will be using a mix of hickory and cherry woid chips.

Personally, I would choose one or the other, and I'd lean towards the brine since I've had such great results with brined birds.
Then I would rub and stuff the skin with seasoned or herb butter.
The Cherry/Hickory sounds nice, go heavier on the Cherry and get a nice sweet smoke with a hint of a hickory.

If it's a Butterball, there is no need to brine it.
But we like Tony C's Cajun butter marinade for injection.

Thank you chilerelleno for your answer. I will definitely do what you recommend. I am using wood chips so i am thinking 2-1 ratio for the wood. 1 cup cherry to 1/2 cup hicory wood chips.
