Our local Lowes Food has bone in shoulders on sale this week for .99 a pound.   I bought 4 the other day.  Went back today and they were out.  Said they'd have more in the morning.   Trying to get stocked up for Super Bowl week-end.   I've got 8 butts in the freezer as well.  I got room for 2 more shoulders....     Best I can get butts in this area is 1.69 on sale.

The sale I thought they were having was on the 20+lb WHOLE pork shoulder.  That was beyond my meat handling abilities.  I just bought a 8lb bone in regular shoulder to cook for the Superbowl at $1.79/lb.

That's a good amount. I just picked up a freezer today to stock up when prices are low. I should have had it last week when it was $.99 /lb . Hope it swings back this way again.

So far pickup 3- 11lbs butts to make into sausage.
Getting 2 more to make pulled pork ( one for work and one is going to my wife's aunt.)
And need another one for BB Bacon .
Still have 10 butts in freezer from last $.99 sale
Going to be a awesome weekend ! :sausage:

I been thinking about  making some sausage.  My father used to make it when we had hogs.  I think all he used was sage salt and pepper.   He loved sage.

Sounds like a good  thing to do on this winter day

So many Butts, so little time....that is a problem.

$.99 happens around here about once a month for one day meat sales. I do sooo many for local charities that the meat mgr pretty much gives it to us at that price about any time we ask. Even stores them for me until I need to cook for the fundraisers. Gotta love how a small town comes together to help charities and folks in need.

Sound, small towns are awesome!   I'm kinda in the middle of nowhere.   The nearest big city is 1 1/2 hrs away.   Can't afford to drive to get the big deals on meat.

I wouldn't have it any other way.   Spirits  can still be found in a jar in these parts......  Its oooooo so gooood!

I  am starting to get my name out some.   My brother in law is a week-end-warror.   He wants me to do some butts for an event they are having.    Its for a great cause!    I hope to go mobile in the late spring.   He said he could really get me some business then.   Its a start.

Wish I could find them on sale for that price around here.... seems like I never see them less than 1.99/lb.

If anyone knows when they go on sale for that cheap in metro detroit, please let me know. I'd love to stock up.

I took one of my butts out of the freezer and put it in the fridge on Saturday, its still REALLY frozen-like.  I'm not sure this 9lb butt is going to defrost in time for the superbowl.  Any tips on defrosting a hunk of meat like that?  I was going to smoke it the day before the game.  Now I'm afraid I'll have to buy a fresh one that isn't frozen.

Best way is just in fridge,
on Friday if it's still frozen you can put it in a tub full of water and run cold water over it. Or just change the water every 30 minutes.
