I heard on Food Network's Diners Drive ins and Dives (or whatever that show is) that a place in Paola Kansas is really good. Stacks of wood, smoke rolling and every single item home made. I have never been to Paola, but might be worth a trip someday!

Hey guys,

I totally agree about AB's.  I live here in KC and eat quite a bit of BBQ from many places but I never go to AB's.  Their sauce sucks.  Sorry if that was the only KC place you tried because you were sure to be let down.  Next time you are in town Gates is one of my favorites.  I agree with the poolman that Jack Stack is one of the better and no, their beans can't be beat.  LC's BBQ has good ribs, Oklahoma Joe's is quickly becoming one of my new spots.  They have a great pulled pork and sauce is pretty good too.

Big Al, you sound like me when the other half and I decided to go out for ribs and pulled pork.  The place we went was Hog Heaven with is -the- local bbq place.  I took one bite of the pulled pork and the ribs and we both looked at each other like, "We are payin for this?" Ugh!
