How often should I add chips?

I just got a MES 40 and used it on Saturday. It seemed like it was going through chips pretty quickly (about every 45 mins). Is that normal or was I adding chips too often thinking there was no smoke?

Help out a newbie please!

I'm sure some of the MES guys will jump in, I think most of the use the AMNPS it stays lit and smokes for hours

That is about normal, to make cooking easier, get an AMNPS it will allow you to cold smoke and 1 tray of pellets will burn for 10 + hours.
