I thought it would be interesting to see how meat prices compare across the country
So let's see.. A brisket here in central NJ either bought at the grocery store or the butcher , goes for $7.75- 7.95 a pound. Grade A cut.. If I catch a sale at SAMs I can get a 8 lb gal for $7.25 a pound... I know different grades cost more . But I talking about the price for an everyday cut.

I dont get how you guys have such low prices.  Here in Mass I'm getting $6.99 / lb at Costco.  SUCKS!
I know nothing about the northeast but it probably has to do with proximity to cattle farms. Both Florida and Texas produce a lot of beef so the prices are generally good when compared to other areas.

Here in Vegas I got one last week for 2.78 from Albertson's, but they are more usually. I have seen them closer to 7.00 most of the time.

To compare, 80/20 ground beef is $3 / lb, whole top round is $3.50 / lb and whole top sirloin is $5.50 / lb.  But for some reason brisket is $7 / lb.  How do the other prices compare in your area?

That is not what I was expecting. Here 80/20 ground is $5, sirloin roast is $6, and sirloin is $10. I guess the supply and demand is completely different.

I just got back from GFS. I was there Saturday and bought 10 pounds of eye of round for $3.35. Went back today to buy more and it had dropped to 3.19! Bought another 10 pounds. They had only 2 Briskets on display and they were $2.34, down from $2.49 on Sat. Butts were still 1.09. Would have bought a brisket, too, except the freezer is full.

Are you pricing brisket  flats or packers? Flats around here are always way more $$ per/lb than packers.

Several weeks ago my Costco had "Prime" packer briskets for $3.79/lb-- 3.16lb case price. I'm sure they have come down in price here since then. The meat guy there told me they adjust the meat prices up or down on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Last week.

Wal Mart Packer Briskets (sometime select.sometimes choice) 2.79 last week.

GSF. Choice  Packers 2.69
