Just surfin around and came across the KCBS, care to share your experiance's? Just in case..... Kansas City BBQ Society

seems like you guys are stickin local, i thought about doin the same.

What are some of the benefits of being a member of a bbq society? Is it like being part of an auto club and meeting every so often to smoke meat and exchange stories?

i dunno sumo, but your idea sounds alot like what we do here. i think it has more to do with the competition end of it. Rules, regulations, where the next comp is, so so forth.

LOL sumo...always the practical one

For the FBA, you do not have to be a member to compete, but you have to be a member to be in the Triple Crown Contests and also to have your points count toward Team of the Year consideration.

I prefer to cook in sanctioned contests where you have certified judges and not just the average guy off the street determining who wins. Too much time, effort, and money committed to have it just a crapshoot with no standards in place. Having a board that oversees all of this stuff takes money, of course.

Also, with the FBA you get a years subscription to the National Barbecue News when you join.

Last but not least, I try to do what I can to encourage the growth of this "sport" and I feel that supporting the organization helps in that effort.

That is basically all a contest is.......with the addition of having to pay the entry fee. Except at the end of it all they give out trophies and $$$
