A common problem with these slicers. When I got mine 2 years ago, it was stuck so bad I eventually had to turn to a propane torch and a dead blow hammer to loosen it up in order to clean it. Most of the problems arise when the previous owner used a PAM like product to lubricate the guide rods. When this stuff is exposed to air and dry out, it becomes the gummiest stuff you've ever seen. I found this when I was searching the web on how to fix this problem
