Has anyone used high heat silicone such as auto gasket making products or such to create door seals? Seem to be many out there. What release agent would you use on apposing surfaces. Maybe good ol KY? Any thoughts. Most seem to be rated in the 500-600 F range.

Well I think that is good ? I dont see if only on doors and if it doesnt gas that it would come in direct contact though. Normally I wouldnt worry about small leaks. Heck my Lang will leak at the door when smoking heavy and I have a big hole in the top that leaks smoke all the time!LOL But with the conversion of this old military stove once I fire it up the first time the leaks may be excessive. I just dont know.

I would be concerned about things like acetic acid and who knows what other chemicals that might bake out of it over time.

Maybe you can use some sort of seals like they use in ovens?

All silicone sealers food grade and non food grade will emit acetic acid (the same organic acid that's in vinegar) as it cures
