I know people use hickory wood/chunks,chips. I read somewhere that using hickory nuts is the thing to do. something about the oils in the nuts getting on the coals and making good flavor smoke...or something like that.

was giver 5 gal bucket of black wallnuts long time ago. they were so hard and small u destroyed them gettin the meat out. sooooo I tried them in my ecb with chicken and it was great. just a hand full after the meat was put on tho. good luck_____try it at least once.

Ive heard of usin pecan shells and pistacio shells. Dont know why hickory wouldnt work. However Id be afraid of a burnt nut smell/taste with whole nuts. Heck it could be great. Try it and let us know how you like it.

I would like to try it, but living in nor cal I don't have access to hickory nuts. will have to do a search and try to find some.
