I've been smoking for about 2 years and hail from about an hour outside of Kansas City, KS.
A friend of mine who used to do competitions gave me his old smoker for helping him tear down an old deck (plus he wanted a new smoker). So I've been cooking on a Good One Marshall for the past 2 years. Extravagant gift I know. He also did the first smoke with me and taught me a lot of his tricks.
I love the thing but I've gotten lazy, so I just ordered the Smokin' It #3. I'm tired of paying for so much charcoal, and I'm tired of getting up at 6:00 in the morning and monitoring all day. I love the idea of throwing a couple butts or a brisket on before I go to sleep and having it ready for lunch, without having to worry about monitoring it until I wake up.
Since the Good One was free, I sold it to another friend interested in smoking just the price of the new Smokin' It. I don't feel right about profiting from it.
That's about it. I look forward to learning as much as I can about my new smoker and many other tips and tricks. Oh, this site, and particularly the Smokin' It thread, is pretty much what sold me on the #3. Thanks in advance for any and all help I will steal from this site. :)
