Hi everyone, great to be here! From the great white north.  I have been doing some research for an upcoming build and stumbled on this site, I cannot say enough about the wealth of information I have found already, you all are great!  The pic attached is the wood stove I picked up yesterday to use as my firebox for my project, I am very excited to get started, my goal is to assemble with the lowest cost possible so patience is key, I got the stove for 30 bucks and it is solid, I am looking at using an 80 gal compressor tank, just waiting to find one for the right price.  I have a trades background and access to all equipment needed to put it all together, I cant wait to see how it turns out...

Welcome and a warm greetings from the corn n hog state!

Just remember to "Naval Jelly" the heck out of the inside of the compressor, as many wrenchheads like me know... compressors get filled with water and rust. Some naval jelly, and a few quarts of lighter fluid will do wonders on converting a compressor to smoker status (IE getting the rust out, then burning the remaining naval jelly out with some lighter fluid... or shine, whichever you prefer.

I actually have the same mod in progress with a compressor that has been 1/4 filled with water the past 15 years. More going after rust, burning toxins, and repeating until I can get in it and wire wheel it to nice looking metal. Now the paint on the outside will likely go away when you decide to fill the entire thing with lighter fluid after brushing and burn clean.

Compressors are a subject I rarely hear of with converting around my neck of the woods. More barrels out here. Main thing is to be safe and get as much of the toxins out as you can before you start-a-smokin'.

Thanks everyone. I have been obsessed lately with anything smoked. I have been getting by for the last couple years with a big chief using chips and charcoal for the extra heat. The element was junk. What a royal pain in the backside to maintain 220 ish for an 8 hr stretch, constant attention. Don't get me wrong, I loved doing it and have produced some really edible goodies, but the time has come to move up to the next level. So I've been given the green light from my wife to procure and build a smoker! Yee haw!:yahoo: I've decided for the moment that I am going to build a RF with everything I collect. I will begin a thread once have it planned and all the parts scavenged. Great site. Cheers.
