Just wanted to drop in and say hi. I am new to the world of smoking. I am looking at purchasing a Perfect Flame LP smoker from lowes in the next couple of days. Not sure what I will try to cook first, maybe some baby back ribs? Have been checking out a lot of smoking/bbq sites to get ideas and tips. This is a great site with a ton of good info and great people who are passionate about what they do. I will try to post some pics when I get everything set up and get some cooking done.

Welcome gutshot.

In addition to ribs, a pork butt is a pretty good one to try for a first time. But depending on the size they can be a long time in the smoker. Also, chicken quarters or is another recommendation. They're cheap to buy (so you don't feel as bad if they get ruined) and have a short cook time and they're delicious.

Welcome to the SMF, and may I suggest Jeff's free 5-day Ecoarse. Good reading/review for all. It will help on that learning curve. It's all good my friend.

One more for the east coast!!!!!....welcome

If your looking for good first smokes I would say chicken there yummy, easy, and pretty fast smoking. Ribs are a another good one just smoke them with the 3-2-1 method and you'll be the hero at the dinner table. So happy smokin and
