Hello from Nebraska

Hello Everyone my name is Mike and I finally joined after looking a couple of times for info that I have used. I live in Omaha and have been smoking for a couple of years using a Charbroil charcoal smoker and a Litttle Chief elec smoker.

Love sippin on a cold one and smokin some great meats for the family. Love camping and boating and am a big bass and crappie fisherman and recently started cat fishing with the brother in law.

Hoping to pick up some new tips and ideas and recipes in this forum.

On the fence looking at purchasing a Smokin It smoker.. brother loves it and sometimes when you dont have time to watch the charcoal one the elec comes in handy,.  If anyone has it I would be interested to hear how you like it.

Thank you ... Smokin Husker..... I saw your name and thought why didnt I think of something cool like that for my forum name given the fact I live in Ne and am a Husker fan..  Ha HA !! O well..

What a great site.. just stumbled upon it a couple of days ago looking for reviews on smokers as I am looking to update mine.

Leaning towards a WSM now that I see all the great things about it... was looking at a Somkin It elec smoker but really might have changed my mind and leaning now to the WSM.. have to convince  the wife its something I need and not just something I want... LOL

Thanks for the Hello.. You know I have never tried smokin a catfish, and really never thought about it until you said it.  It does sound good ... might have to check into it.  You know everyone smokes salmon.. never really hear about catfish. I have always deep fried my cats that I have caught. But hey its a new year and your supposed to try new things... lol.

Roll Tide! ... You guys really "smoked" Notre Dame.  Good thing my Huskers didnt play you guys, you would have creamed us!

By the way, I wish your Huskers and my Sooners could go back to playing each other every year. I miss those days. It was a great rivalry!

Haha! I agree!! Disappointing game vs GA. Welcome to SMF! I am born and raised in Omaha and probably the biggest Husker fan in KS now. I think smoked catfish would be awesome. I do not expierement with fish too much since I am the only one in the family that eats fish. Didn't Joe Tess restaurant in Omaha offer this at all?

Hey Griz,

Yea what a great tradition it was!  I like the Sooners and like Stoops, I think he has a great tradition going down there and is a good coach. I see you guys  had as much luck as we did in your bowl game as we did. You have fun with Texas.. man I hated those boys. They were the only team I couldnt stand when we were in the Big 12.

And yea I am finding some great info on this site. Its amazing what you find on the internet when you are just looking for reviews on a new smoker.  Fact all the things I have found on this site swayed me to stay  with a charcoal smoker instead of leaping to a elec one.  Its lookin like the Weber Smokey Mountain is my new choice. It appears to have great temp control which is frustrating me with my charbroil offset box smoker right now.

I had the same problem with mine, but after reading several of the threads here, I began making some mods to mine and it has really began to pay off. Have you thought about a UDS? I just got a drum and will be building mine soon. Everyone says they are awesome and really stable so I am going to find out.

You would think that in this up standing, down home , god fearing city like Omaha you would be able to find smoked catfish on some menu somewhere, but I have found no such place.. lol But I have not been to Joe Tess place.

I guess the reputation that this is a beef town remains true.
