Wow I feel in the minority 

Hope you're all doing fantastically well.  I'm Martin from Bucks in the UK, 40ish miles north west of London to those who are interested.  BBQing here in the UK is a slightly different beast which includes directly grilled undercooked chicken, burnt sausage and leather steaks.  I'm not up for insulting produce any more!

Good smokers with a limited budget over here seem to be far and few between but thankfully we're lucky enough to have Costco membership which means I can get a Brinkmann Trailblazer at a reasonable price.  I'm hoping to order tomorrow.

I'll be ordering some high temp silicon to help ensure the thing is smoke tight when it comes to building and I've seen a few other recommended mods on here that I think I'll have a bash at.

Other than that there's not a lot to say other than this place looks brilliantly informative!  Looking forward to mooching around some more and learning lots!

Hello, Martin! I have something similar under the Masterbilt brand name. I would love to be toying with it right now but we have another day of 40 mph winds and spitting sparks would be a Bad Idea.

That doesn't sound so good! The weather is variable here which extends somewhere between 6" snow and good 65-70 degree shorts weather; April's a bit of a crazy month.  So far we seem to be battling fog and pollution so it's probably a good idea I'm not adding to the smog :)

How have you found your smoker?  Much luck?  It's something I've never attempted before so will be a whole new experience.

If you don't have much experience with smoking, then I'd suggest that you try roasting/grilling over a clean fire first so you can learn how various meats cook on your grill, and what the heat distribution is, etc.

I'll offer this advice - I'm in Ohio and commercial smoked BBQ in restaurants here is served with a very strong smoke flavor. I've visited the Carolinas, and the BBQ there tastes more like oven-roasted meat with a hint of smoke aroma. Follow that Carolina example and cook over embers instead of great billowing clouds of smoke.

Hello Martin and Welcome to our addiction.  A word of warning: There is no 12 step program for this one!  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  All info you can provide us with such as smoker type, location and so on will help us answer any questions you may have.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!
