I am a newbie to smoking, but earlier this year I caught the bug. I saw the first season of BBQ Pitmasters and decided that Myron Mixon reminds me a lot of my father... horse's rump personality but secretly kind... so I started watching and trying to learn.
So far I've been using a Brinkman 4-burner gas grill to smoke, using an outside burner for indirect heat setup. I've "successfully" smoked a pork loin, and duplicated Mixon's cupcake chicken to my family's enjoyment. Briskets are still a challenge (my youngest child calls us the "Inglorious Brisket BBQ Team") but I'm practicing with chuck roasts for now to get my rub and technique down.
I think my next step will be purchasing a Masterbuilt GS40 propane smoker... get a better tool for the job than my big grill. I would like to move to a stickburner when I learn more.
Thanks for such a FANTASTIC forum!
