I am a newbie to smoking. Im in Northern Denver Colorado. I built my smoker from a filing cabinet and a hotplate on top of which I put a cast iron dutch oven. I have access to lots of wood. Family member has a tree removal business. What should I try first?

Hello and welcome from East Texas. This is a great site, lots of information and great people that are willing to throw in their two cents worth on about anything.

Welcome aboard!  You've found a great place to learn and share ideas on smoking, grilling, curing, etc.  There are plenty of good people here who really know their stuff and genuinely enjoy helping one another.  Looking forward to your input around here, and just ask when you need anything...someone will surely have the answer.  Ribs, pork butt, chicken...lots of great stuff that's pretty easy for the first smoke.
