Hello all,
I'm taking delivery of a Lone Star Grillz 1000 lb smoker. I'm putting it on my deck. It's about 10' off the ground. I know the weight any given structure can can handle is all about the way its put together and what materials were used. Just curious if anyone has this much weight on their deck

Thx,

Would you be worried about 4-5 grown men standing in the same spot on the deck? Probable not. I used to fill a big pool on our deck that was over 10000 lbs and the deck never flexed. I wouldnt be worried if I were you.

I am not in construction, so I will defer to those who are. However, as an engineer, the one concern I'd have is not the total load, which as Geebs says is no different than five big men standing there, but the point pressure from the smoker stand. If it has just a few "feet" supporting it, and those feet are much smaller than a man's foot, then you might get enough pressure to sink into the deck material. You might therefore have to add "landings" under the feet to avoid that problem.

I'm not into construction either, but are you planning on placing it over a support or in the middle of a span? I think most decks are designed to handle a dead load of 50lbs/square foot.

Chris

Thanks all for your help. I think for piece of mind im going to have a structural engineer take a look.
