I still have really good hearing in absolute terms. My problem, and have had it a long time, is differentiating conversation in loud environments. With all the restaurants seeming to go all hard surfaces, “rustic/warehouse” type settings, no absorptive treatments, etc , and then throw in music playing, it’s almost impossible to talk to people across the table.
Ive talked to a good audiologist, and she said there isn’t really any “noise-canceling” aids. They just play with the orientation/directivity of the microphones. And I already knew that frequency equalizer won’t work since the background human voices are the same frequencies as my companions.
She said they really don’t work well for my situation.
But sounds like most of you guys have more hearing “loss” and should be able to get good results. Good luck!
