Now I may only have time for one or two spots so I'm depending on y'all to tell me your favorites...........and yes I'll have to go check out the legendary Kruez Market so don't put that one on the list!

For anyone at SMF in this area, take the time to come down to the Crowne Plaza and see us showing off the new smoker at the National Barbecue Association Conference.

Lots of fun for all here and bring the cookbooks for signing. Usually Mike Mills and Paul Kirk are on hand to put the john hancock to their latest publications. Hope to see you all you SMFers from Texas!

The County Line I think it's called. Was there several years ago, but it was pretty good then.
Oh and a bar called The Gingerbread Man, if still around. 400+ beers to wash it down with.

The Salt Lick is a ways out of town, but definitely worth it! You might wanna try the Stubbs Sunday Brunch.

Salt Lick is the place to go to. They also have the best sides IMHO.

Yep. Gotta send all your Q to the SMF collective for 6 months now ;{)
Besides we like to know who we;re giving all these secrets and advice to... COULD be the competition LOL!

My bro-in-law moved to an Austin suburb and sent us a brisket along with sauce, from Salt Lick. The brisket was smoked but with a very mild smoke flavor. It was the sauce I found exceptionally tasty.

Leeman, are they building a Salt Lick in Round Rock? I got a friend who lives there. If they are building one, I forsee alot more visits to see him!!

Yes - next to Dell Diamond (on 79). Luckily, its only a couple of miles from my house !

Their BBQ sauce is superb ! Not tomato based - I believe brown sugar/mustard based. Normally I like spicy sauce, but their sweet sauce is to die for. BTW, you can buy their sauce at HEB and other supermarkets.

Their potato salad (a dry variety) and cole slaw (non mayo based dry one) are incredible ! Damn... I'm getting hungry now.....

Are you Driving? I hope so, otherwise I'm jsut waisten your time with this long-*** entry. But oh well, here you go, just in case.

First off, you could damn near spend a week here and still not put a dent in all the GOOD BBQ joints around here. But from local-yokal point of view, here's a site to keep ya occupied.

http://www.rbjb.com/rbjb/guide.htm

My personal faves from the site are...

Arthur Bryant's Barbecue, Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue, Smoke Stack Barbecue (Located in my home town of Liberty and the family and I fequent there), Wabash BBQ (just a few minutes North in Excelsior Springs. You could also check out the Elm's Resort. It is locally known fact that Truman and Capone stayed there many times and, you could walk to the Wabash from there. Nice little "Pit Stop for a night, wouldn't you say?) K.C. Masterpiece, and last but not least Smokehouse Bar-B-Que (Also frequented by myself and family).
Like I said, you might need to stay in KC for a week just so you can put a dent in this list. Or, you could hit some on the way to Auston AND on the way back, just as long as you stop in KC! After all, it is the BBQ Capitol of the WORLD!

I bought a couple bottles of rub there the last time i went to Austin. I dont use on anything but ABTs. It's like my little secret....well not anymore. it's just something about that particular rub and bacon. Is the one in RR gonna be BYOB also?
