So, as I acquired some new pipe I have decided to build a new pit out of it.
Here is what I have 16" new gas pipe, my plans are building a small pit probably about 36" long. I think I am going to make my firebox about 20" long.
Here are my questions, do y'all think that would be overkill?
Next question I have tried the calculator on the opening from box to pit, but I'm still confused on total opening size. Can somebody make this easier for me and tell me what y'all think?
Thanks JM

I didnt have much luck with the calculators either, but from what I have read u want your firebox to be 1/3 of the size of the smoker body. I'm sure someone can chime in on the opening and vent sizes.

Welcome to the smf.the firebox needs to be 1/3 of total.that would be 12 inches of 36.you can enter whether you want a rectangular opening or a circular. It doesn't need to be perfect but rather close.I played around with the numbers for a while until I got what I wanted.

Thanks for the welcome! I hope to learn some good stuff off of this forum!
