Checking in from NJ. I've been lurking for better than a year now and figured it was time to emerge from the shadows. I found this forum while looking for bacon curing info and I've been clicking in here every evening since. Thanks to everyone who freely contributes their knowledge. Still have to make my own bacon but the info you share has certainly helped me up my outdoor cooking game, much to the pleasure of the family. Hope that I'll be able to contribute in the future. Thanks again!!

Welcome from East TN. Check out some more of the bacon threads! I too would never of thought of doing it either until I found this forum now I’ve done tons of it and am hooked!

Cold smoking ftw

Thanks for the "Welcome Aboard" guys. I may not have made any bacon myself, yet, but I did acquire a butchered hog from a friend in exchange for some work on his tractor. I wasn't ready to cure them myself so I took the bellies to a local place that cured and smoked them for me. Pretty darn good stuff but not quite the awesome I was hoping for. I'll be due for more bacon come fall and the timing will be better for me to do my own.

JC in GB, funny you should add the cat smiley to your post. We have too many of the fur babies in the house with even more outside and most of them are black and white!
