I just read Jeff's latest newsletter where he threw together a smoker using some oven liners & tin foil.

I gotta give it to the guy!  I love to smoke food for my family and friends; nothing makes me happier than making them smile with my food.

That being said...no way would I go to the lengths that Jeff did to smoke three racks of ribs!!!!  Someone would have to produce a smoker or at least a kettle grill if they want me make 'em smile!

Jeff, you are the man...a little off your rocker, but still the man!  Kudos.

Bill Greene - devoted smoking fanatic but obviously no where near as devoted or fanatical as THE MAN!

I would love to hear other's comments and stories of concocted smokers!

Let's hear it y'all !!!!!

put 4 tall stakes in the ground to make a square (20"x20"maybe) ... wrap aluminium foil around the stakes a couple of times and then put some dirt around the bottom to seal it to the ground... make a hole at bottom for air vent and use a rock or something to put in front of it (the damper) make a grate out of an old grate and put 4 more stakes in to hold it up... light ya up some briquettes and stack little piles in all four corners at the bottom... cover the top with some tripled up aluminium foil and make a little vent hole.. and your off to the races.... :grilling_smilie:

My patented igloo smoker from a couple years back. It worked surprisingly well, despite the lighter fluid visible in the video and the puffy white smoke. The ribs weren't half bad. I can do better now with a real smoker and a little knowledge gained here, but this was a whole lotta fun.

That is totally cool.  I didn't get the sound on the video but that is one wild looking getup!!!!

Thanks.

Haha! Knock yourself out. It actually worked fairly well. It's sitting on top of one of those firepits with the grill grate. I think I put a bed of coals on either side with the grate in the middle. Used firewood as smoke wood, I think I just put a log at one end. Can't remember the exact specs. It's making me really want to go on another camping trip. That trip was a blast. It was in Rodanthe, NC. Small soundfront campground with a little pizza place/bar and a beer store within 75 yards of the place. I wanna go NOW!!!

Here is a pic I took from our campsite (obviously heavily processed) and the vid I made to send the other guys. REALLY badly done. Music is songs the 2 friends I was camping with absolutely hate, just to annoy them. Not meant to hijack the thread, just expanding on the trip with the concocted smoker.
