went and got two drums today to start  my UDS Build. [IMG]

don't know the first thing about building one so any info you can pass along .

I will be checking other builds on here and hope I come up with a plan.

will do a burn out and then go from there.

    red liner [IMG]

here the wood for the burn out

got new toy to play with. [IMG]  weed burner did a good job. but needed to burn out the red liner so fill it with

the wood and let it burn  all day and night. still a hot fire going in the morning . did a good job of burning out the liner

put 4 air holes in the bottom before the burn out. (another toy i got was the step drill bit ) works great !!

wire wheel did a great job cleaning the inside and outside of the drum

grate bolts, ball valve and nipples with caps installed,

grate is 8 inch from top

    first coat.

after 2 coats of paint. will finish it up next weekend.

And watch a lot of u-tube builds
Went and got a weed burner to burn them out
and a step drill bit to cut the holes .
Going to burn them out this weekend

Finish up the last few things on the smoker that needed to done before the seasoning .

putting 3 wheels on so I can move it around.

the chair work great for laying the drum on so i can get inside to tighten the bolts.

    puting the handles on .

    handle on top.

this is the basket I make for my offset smoker. going to use it until I make a round one for the UDS.

they had lump carcoal on sale at Lowes . this hold 10 Lbs bag.

lit 4 lump charcoal and put on top and closed it up (stole wife pizza pan to put under the basket)[IMG]

light blue smoke . started with one cap off and ball valve open all the way. 15 minutes later put the cap back on

I sprayed the inside with Pam and started seasoning it.

here the final picture of it . been keeping track of the temp every 15 min.

the control of the temp is unbelieveable !!!!! so much better then my side fire box smoker.

been 3 hours so far the hightest its been is 240 and lowest was 217. And that was playing

around with the ball valve. Once I figure out right were the ball valve need to be it will stay

at 225 for hours on end.

    thanks for looking .

adding few last pictures. I now understand why so many people like the UDS.

uses very little charcoal to get the job done. and temp control is so easy.

I think my side firebox smoker  will end up like my gas grill.

just sitting out there not getting used much.

made some hamburger after seasoning the smoker.

ran the smoker 6 hours before shutting it down. Couldn't believe how much charcoal and wood was still in there

this morning when I check on it.

today smoking a Pork Loin and some stuff chicken .

Great looking build. Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for the drums, if you don't mind me asking.
