I have a question with my GOSM wide body. When I got it back in the spring I had no trouble keeping the temps down but now I cant get it any lower than 270°. the only thing differant is the liquid level in the propane tank. The pressure gauge reads goo on pressure but you can tell by the weight that it is low on liquid gas. Anyone else experienced this problem? Any solutions?

Some people have said the smoker started acting weird when the tank ran low but I've had no problems personally. The needle valve installation would help probably. If its in the sun maybe some shade would help. If worse comes to worse add ice cubes to the water pan as needed to cool it some.

I just barely open the valve on my propane tank, probably 1/8 of a turn, it seem to do alright for me, keep the vent on top closed (as far as the tabs will let ya). I have been able to keep a 225-250 on 100 degree days.

hope this helps

p.s. is your water pan full? when mine starts gettin lo the temp climbs rite on up

Install a needle valve between the regulator and the tank this will let you turn the flame down lower than the control on the smoker allows you to. But just watch when it is windy the flame will blow out on you. Did this to mine and worked fine.

270o is mighty high. Something isn't right. I only use my needle valve when I need to get below 200o. Maybe the regulator is malfunctioning?

How new is your propane tank? Was it ever purged when you filled it the first time? It sounds like you have more than enough pressure but not a lot of propane. You can have your tank purged by anybody that fills tanks. It is just a matter of putting some pressure on the contents of the tank and opening the purge valve on the top of the tank.
Another thing to try is to reset the regulator. I called GOSM when I got my smoker and was having trouble with flame. Start by disconnecting your hose from the tank. Turn the smoker knob to high for a minute. After a minute shut it back off. Reconnect to the tank and see if that makes any difference.
I also put a needle valve on my hose and love it.

Thanks all for the help. I will try installing the needle valve sounds like a good idea. I will try reseting the regulator today. The tank I have had for several years and it was purged when first fill up.
