Planted 16 trees this spring. We have more than a few gophers. Our pups, Redbone Coonhounds, spend some time daily digging, chasing after them. There is a couple of gopher holes near one of the trees...I have field fencing surrounding each tree....needless to say outside of that surround the pups have it pretty well torn up. Spent some time chatting with the old guy down the road....he swears that these things

work? What say you fine folks?

I have moles and the only way to get rid of them is to either kill them (trap) or kill what they eat. Nothing else works...

i think sooner or later they will get used to any contraption"my opinion". the only way i get rid of them is to shoot them, but if your not in to that you can try and trap them but it's hard this time of year with all the food available to them. good luck.

Should I dust off my 50BMG rifle?? lol.....

I use a dispenser type with granulated tiny pellets of poisonous bait..... licorice scented strychnine.... I use a 1/4" steel probe 30" long with a "T" handle on one end.... I takes practice finding the runs.... then dispensing the pellets into the run and not the side wall....
I've been using it for 8 ish years... now I can kill a gopher on the first application 80% of the time... every year they seem to invade my alfalfa... If I can get to their first mound, I can usually put an end to them in 1-2 days....

i say start dusting and blast away.although the pellets as dave mentioned are hunting all the time, depends how much time you have.i personally just like pulling the trigger.

I have used the gopher pellets that you spread on top of the ground and it worked very good...it is not immediate of course but it worked wonders...I got it at runnings farm supply...if you have chickens or the like you shouldn't use this...but dogs are alright{at least mne don't eat it}...if you want a picture or brand I can get it for you Tuesday while I lam smoking a butt..mine are pocket gophers so lots of mounds n such....jeff

I spent a summer in high school working on a farm/ranch.  We used cyanide pellets about the size of a golf ball.  Drop a couple in every hole, pour a gallon or so of water down the hole and shovel dirt in quickly.  Seemed to do the trick.  Not sure if you can even get cyanide these days, though.

My buddies and I on weekends when bored also used to drive down the farm roads and stop at every place we knew there were prairie dogs about.  We shoot as many as we could until the all decided it was best to stay down in there tunnels.  The ranchers loved us.  Now, on these same ranches, the charge $$$ to shoot the same critters they encouraged us to shoot.  Go figure.

If you want personal justice, http://www.rodenator.com/   I think they are like 1400 bucks,,I would NOT use it near pools, pipes, houses, or anything you will have to fix. it's probably goot for a tree pasture.

I use the trap the spears moles, that seems to work, but you are going to do this for a while.

I have also piped the exhaust off my portable generator in their hole,  It uses boat motor gas/oil mixture so I have seen blue smoke 30 feet away.

Good luck

sort of reminds me caddyshack"i think that's the right movie" maybe try some dynamite.just kidding hope you are able to solve your problem.

My Duramax smokes a bit thanks to a leaking injector.....hmmmm

Dynamite....now we're talking....

I know getting rid of them, entirely, is going to be hard to do with where we live. Just keeping them away from the trees would keep me happy.

Red, our elderly Redbone Coonhound, used to dig up there tunnels looking for them. He managed to catch one... of course our Cattle Dog ended up with it. She got caught trying to bring what was left of it inside.

Red did train the 2 young Redbones how to track them. Not uncommon to see the girls out there, ears to the ground digging.
