I have the kind with the bolt that locks the ring down, and it works just fine for me...haven't seen/used the kind with the handle, so can't offer any advice.

Just by slipping the ring around the lid, it seems to hold the lid down and seal it up pretty well. Sometimes I'll pinch the ends of the ring a little to put a little pressure on the lid.

I normally use the Weber kettle lid, unless I'm smoking something kinda small that fits under the flat lid easily.

Either way you go, your drum will soon become your favorite smoker...

picked up the handle clamp one, was 20 bucks. there were two different sized ones i went with the wider of the two
