Maui, Hi.
Aloha All,

As I was making a batch of Jeff's sauce yesterday, the pot I was using must have been smaller than what I should have been using. As a result, as the sauce simmered a few splats wound up on the glass range. Because of the sugar content, the splats carmalized onto the range top. How do i safely get those splats off the glass? I've been using those cook top cleaner pads...but its been slow..slow going. My wife doesn't want me to go at it with the razor blade....so I am in need of help.

I have been cleaning mine for years.
Razor blade is fine for the crusty stuff.
Then I use the Cream based Glass top cleaner or Bar Keepes Friend (made into a paste) for the tough stuff.

Razor gets off the worst with no problem.

Razor blade works if you're real careful. What I have learned to do is after wiping down the stovetop, I give it a coat of WD-40 to keep it from sticking too bad in the future.

Don't laugh! go to their website...wd-40 is made from fish oil, and is really harmless. I'll stop short of calling it "food safe", but I've been using it for a long time with no problems.

I don't own one of those tops, but can you use vinegar on them? I would think that would work good if you made a paste with it.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - it's somewhat abrasive, which helps it lift stuff off, but it's not so abrasive that it will scratch the top. My wife uses the Magic Eraser and a citrus-based cleaner and it works every time.

The kit sold to us when we brought our stove had a razor blade scraper in it, works fine, can't cut glass with a razor blade.

if it came with a razor blade, then a razor blade is safe. have her go buy a magic eraser, some vinegar, some barkeep's friend, some citrus cleaner or a can of WD40, and then while she's out shopping, put the blade to the stove ~

you can't scratch with a razor blade. Get the worst off with it.
I then find that if you soak the remainder with liquid (glass cleaner or 409) that it comes up pretty easy with a sponge.
Also, scotch brite pads work fine with it, combined with some glass top cleaner I have never found anything I can't clean.

Mahalo (thank you to all)....

I went out and got the kit with the razor blade and went at it. What it didn't lift off, the paste took care of. All is good now. I like the idea of using vinegar with a paste. Maybe vinegar and salt? Soaking stain with 409 is interesting as well. Now I have an arsenal of ideas to work with next time something like this happens again. Thanks for the great tips.

For almost any dried or burnt on spill you can soften it easily by getting a dishcloth sopping wet with soapy water and just leave it sit on top of the goop over night. Wipe It off in the morning.

A razer should work just fine too keep the Razor blade at a sharp angle and you will be fine.
