galvanized issue?

I have aquired a big commercial freezer only issue is that the smoke chamber is galvanized. Should i scrap it and build a new box to put in the shell or could I line it with Tile and grout to seal it? would that work.

Hello.  I see this is your first post, please stop by Roll Call and introduce yourself.

As for your question:  Some folks say it is fine so long as you keep your temps low and don't allow your meat to touch the sides or COMPLETELY seal it.  In other words, IF you follow ALL the rules you SHOULDN'T poison your family and friends.  Too many ifs and buts for me.  I'd rip it out.  Just my opinion.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

I'm by NO means an expert, but I am a guy and have always heard not to use galvanized for anything to do with food. Just like don't use pressure treated wood for food contact areas/tools.

If you have the ability to fabricate a new box, go for it. You can do it custom that way, too. You know, put shelves where you want, etc.
