Been doing a ton of research an decided that my next smoker should be a Gravity Fed Smoker. I considered ordering a new one, completely built an ready to go. But, with the currency exchange, shipping, taxes @ the border. I decided it was a much better and cheaper option to buy some plans and have one built locally.

Got my first quote back, for the 82' of 2" x 2" square tubing that will be needed for the build. The metal supplier will cut, make all 35 pieces to the desired lengths, for $25. $317.44 cutting fee and taxes included. I will be getting them to cut all my sheet metal and plate steel to size. They have the fancy machines to cut everything, will make nice square cuts. That will save us alot of time and headaches throughout the build process. Then all that will be left to do is start welding and assembling :)

Al, It's been a very long time since i welded anything. I actually don't even own a welder anymore. I will get someone else to weld it all together, for me :) Shoulder be quicker and alot less grinding or fixing mistakes than if i did it lol.

Haven't been on here in a while. How did the build go?

I just finished one of these myself! WOW! I don't boast but it came out awesome and works even better.

I will post a thread this weekend and some pics of my build process!!

Hi,

Do you have a rough total cost of materials, to build according to the plans you have.

I was thinking of purchasing those plans and having it built because i have zero experience with welding but was wondering what the cost of materials was.

Thanks

The question is are you in the US or Canada ? I am pretty sure that you will be able to get steel quite a bit cheaper than i can if you are in the US. I am in Canada. I will let you know what the steel costs, once the welder gives me the bill :)

Cliffy,

The insulation on that box tube probably won't have much effect as the heat will still be conducted through the steel to the other side of the box.

lol,  Yall complaining about high steel prices.

Try living in South america where it is super difficult to source any parts or equipment.

How much in materials do you estimate you had into this?  I was looking at there web site and I am thinking about building this same one or maybe the smaller one?  Your build came out awesome looking!

It was about $1700 CDN in materials. Sheet metal, plate steel for FireBox, square tubing, expanded metal, angle iron, 4x casters, 1 1/2" & 2" SS Ball valves.
