Looks like a 1000 gallon propane tank with the ends cut out. Thinking that farmer has plans for it himself... looters don't go through that much work and then just leave it .

Especially for steel. There just isn't a lot of value, scrap wise, so I'm inclined to agree that there are ulterior motives going on.

We get 6 cents a lb for scape steel in my parts (hardly worth the gas money)...... However, there would have been a big hole somewhere if it was dug up........I'm in the road biz and I've never seen a commercial culvert like that...... but then again it could be but seems very "Iffy"......
The rancher said it was pulled up 3/4 mile away, I gues with 4x4 trucks (I call bull) I went and investigated, nope, didn’t happen where he said it did. It was dropped and dragged within 100’ of where I found it, and in the opposite direction the rancher told me it came from. I didn’t fall off the tatter truck last night. Still it’s a bit of a standoff.

Scrap steel was $25 a ton. Not sure of current price. All I know is the hoe did not want to curl it back once the forks were under it. I had to pull a cool guy backhoe trick to get it curled back. So was maybe a half tank of gas worth of money?

I suspect that rancher wants to have it as a culvert on his property and is trying to find a way to get it moved........... Its virtually impossible to get a pipe like that in my parts without parting with large amounts of $$ and I know I could clear 2k in smoker builds......I would be making a phone call.

Beleive I would cut a foot or so off and use it for a fire ring to start with... Instead of the cinder blocks I use now... Which dry and crack/break from the heat... Then need replacing... Cook over the open flame with a campfire type swinging rack/grate ... Or the tri pod deal with grates hanging from chains..

My buddy where I built the Tractor at makes fire rings with designs cut out (with a torch)... Fire/flame shows through the designs and looks pretty cool.. He's a big armidillo fan... so he made one with cut outs of an armadillo ...

Excellent find and I hope it works out for both you and BLM (cleaning up for them)

Contact BLM. You have the photos and tell them you will remove it for them as well as the sketchy story from the rancher that apparently does not have equipment to move it.
I understand keeping peace with the neighbor's but they have to play by the rules, too.

Your post made me go back and look at the receipt. I grossly misspoke. I did not pay $450, I payed $246.55 for both bottles. Here is a pic of the receipt from Airgas.

This is my tank volumes.

Nice find, not cool if someone just littered it. Get something from BLM or Sheriff in writing and have at it.
We use to have everything from couches to appliances dumped out on our Railroad Right Of Way. Some idiot had a bill down in the cushions with his name on it that I gave to the Sheriff. Not sure what transpired.

Looks like the kind of pipe we use in the drilling industry for conductor install prior to spud. Nice find. Many a cooker have been build from these.

You will only be limited by your imagination! Congrats on the find.

Nice find! It really sucks that people dump stuff like that! In our area we see some garbage or tires occasionally but nothing too terrible. There is a city about 30 minutes west of me that is basically a little detroit. There are enough users and tweekers in that county and the county above it that anything metallic doesnt lay around for more than 15 minutes........
