Hey all, my better half was at an estate sale yesterday and was looking at these. They were ready to shut down and told Nicole… “You like those”? Nic said well they are kinda neat. The lady said… “we are shutting down early… 50 cents for both and they are yours”! Nic said, well ok. So here’s what she brought home… Looking at these, someone definitely spent some time on crafting them.

Thought these were cool and was worth sharing.

THOSE COME FROM A TIME WHEN NOT EVERYTHING WAS PUNCHED OUT OF A MACHINE, GORGEOUS WORK THERE! RAY

At least a couple hundred past cool .
Those are in great shape . Decoys are highly collected . I'd do some research on those and see what you have . The real old handmade " folk art " ones go for big money .
Those are nice , thanks for posting .

Those are two beautiful ducks. I'm glad your wife have given them a new life with folks who appreciate the effort someone has put into their craft.

As a wood turner it breaks my heart to walk through an estate sale and see something that was obviously hand crafted sitting their for cheap. I've seen incredible turned bowls, signed and dated, and nobody is looking at them.

Good for your wife.....

I have only been to one estate sale, and it was run by a firm.
Most items were overpriced IMO. At least two items were more than you could buy them in a store.

WOW! Beautiful ducks! I'll give you a good profit for them. They'd look great in my shop with my other ducks!

Those are cool for sure!! I have a decoy addiction and have a bunch of them. From very old to new working decoys. I’ve carved and painted a few as well and that’s a time consuming task!! Ya wanna double your money LOL. Nice find and thanks for posting

At a fundraiser yesterday and seen these… I knew they were coming home with me!!

This one is nice and it’s a snapshot of ID life!

This next one still amazes me as to how it was done… maybe some of you guys can chime in as I’d love to know the details. Being an elk enthusiast… this one really had my attention.

Awesome.
I am a wood worker. I am not by any stretch of an imagination a wood carver.

Very nice, great find! My wife’s uncle buys/sells old decoys, mainly from the Upper Chesapeake Bay area. He’s given a couple to me over the years. Mine are a bit shot up compared to yours 🤔 His oldest are from the 1850s

Nice peice for sure . Probably bandsaw , scroll saw and dremel work .
Started with a flat board and a printed template of the subject matter glued to it .
Big thing is knowing were to start with this stuff .
I've tried , and just can't get it .
My Dad did hand carving , a 2D rose on Rosewood .

I have all his carving tools , and found this one last
blank in his shop after he passed .
I think I'll just leave it as is . I'd just mess it up . Lol .
But that's how it starts .
