I am considering trying my hand at catering and setting up at local events next year. My question is how do I go about obtaining a food handlers license? I have been to the Illinois website but must be looking in the wrong place? Thanks for any and all advice. Bryon

try the health department that is where I had to go for mine in arizona if I remember right. good luck. If it is like az which is pretty strict compared to most states it is still easy. What takes some time is getting your food manager license. One person has to carry this for a catering company or restaurant in AZ

I would think that you would need to contact the local health dept for the city in which you reside, that is what we have to do here in Kansas City, KS...

I agree with everyone here so far the health department and they should be able to push you in the right direction. So go for it and get to catering.

One thing. I would think it would be fore the county you live in. The city government usually is for a business license or temporary food establishment(sometimes needed for catering 2-3 day events) Not positive but that is the way it is in AZ

i just got recertified for a mgr.'s card and GOT14U is right about the county here in az governing it. you can google foodhandlers card in your county/state for more info and if you are going to own your own catering you might need a mgr.'s certification. the courses run around $100.

Thanks all , I think I found it on the Illinois Department of Public Healths website.
