Hi all my name is Ian, im 39 and i live in a small village in England called Raunds, my children and wife have got me a smoker as an early fathers day presant, im tried using it today and cooked ribs for 6 hours at 170f and they are raw in the middle, i guess i got a lot to learn haha, well im looking forward to getting to know you guys and learning from you

Welcome to the site.  There is a ton of information here and a lot of veteran-chefs and great ideas.

To answer your question - I normally smoke ribs at 225F-250F for 5 to 6 hours. 170F is a dangerously low temperature to smoke any meat at.

You may want to look up 3:2:1 ribs. A lot of guys swear by the 3:2:1 method but I rarely wrap my ribs for more than 30 minutes, if at all.

Good luck!

Ed

Welcome to the forum!

You need to get your smoker up to at least 225 degrees to smoke ribs.

Hey Ian, welcome! What kind of smoker did they get you? You want to run a little higher temp say 225F. That will give you a much better result.

Yes, your cook temp was way too low. Myself, I like to cook mine in the 275 degree range. Look up the 3-2-1 method, works very well.

AND.....Congratulations on your new smoker!!! You have a great family!!!

Hi all and thank you so much for making me feel so welcome so soon, i will increase my temps to the recomended temp for my next attempt, to amswer your question lanceP they got me a landmann tenasie 200, im sure ive spelled tenasie wrong lol but being from the UK im sure i can be forgiven, where shall i look for the 321 method

Welcome ian, go to the search bar and type in whatever you need to look for. Dont worry, we've all been there, so relax with a beverage and enjoy the site.

Also, check out the U.K. Smokers group. They will be able to give you U.K. Specific advice that those of us on this side of the pond may not know.
