Hello, glad to join the group. Have smoked meat a few times on gas grill indirect with Weber chip box. Brisket and some short ribs. Both were okay, but sort of tough. Stepped up and bought my first smoker today. Masterbuilt 340G. Hearing chip pan is too small and should replace with small cast iron pan. Can I use a small chip box with a top and set it on existing pan? Yet to use the smoker. This weekend I’ll give it a try. Have a great 4th!

Most of the time the chip holder that came with the unit will work ok but will need refilled often, there are a couple easy remedy's, there is a tube that can be filled with pellets or sawdust and a maze, look at the smokers section and you will find a lot of good info to help make your smoker perform better , good luck and lots of practice is fun
