You can get some flat bar, cut you a template out of plywood and make whatever size you want on wheels. I like  1/4"  just me

actually thats pretty smart...I sometimes get so caught up I forget how to do things..i might have a lead on  a few wheels for dang near free out of an old farmers metal pile. so I'll see how that goes first

so as you can see I got some more work done on the grill..I got the frame under it made from 3/16 1x2 inch c channel. the part that is comming straight back is gonna have the wagon wheels and over the axle I am gonna build a box for charcoal and wood. I do have a piece of 1/4 steel for the back of the fire box then its on to the guts...I'm pretty sure that I'm gonna put a counter weight for the door...that sucker is heavy.

Same sausage on the grill I actually smoked them for awhile then put the coals under em to speed it up a bit...sometimes you just cant wait. Used cherry and jack daniels oak chips....came out amazing

I know its a bit smokey but its chicken done with cherry and hickory wood...this is being smoked in my square brinkman..I'm not to happy with this grill as it dosent pull air through the coals making me lucky to have it up to 200 degrees...I'm gonna have to do some mods on this one but as you can see it will smoke like a mother....

So I had another question this one to do with the smoke stack. I know I need a 4 inch interior pipe at 30 inches above the CC. My question is this...can I use four 2 inch pipe welded together? it would be easier for me to cut into the tank as it would need to be a square cut and it would look boss as far as im concerned. But would the small pipes actually create more drag for the smoke? would I have to totally change the height of the stack at all and also would galvanized metal work for this or would that give off toxic something or other? I'm close to gettin it done....hopefully I'll be cooking on it this thanksgiving.

I'm of the mindset that 2" pipes are gonna be cheaper and by welding four of them together I'm gonna save a buck or two plus I thought that four pipes coming up would be a bit cooler looking than one....bad idea then?

I am trying to picture 4 pipes coming up ,   To me (just my opinion) One stack would look cleaner than 4 small ones. But as I said my opinion everybody likes what they like. Ask for some more input or perhaps someone may have some pictures they could post of something like or similar to what you are thinking of doing.

well I was helping my bud put in some pannel in his house and saw a 4" pipe that was used for a woodstove just laying in his crap pile. He gave it to me which is awesome so i guess I didn't have to worry about the price point because its free yet is one pipe....best of both worlds...lol...I'll be putting it in tomorrow.

If you do install multiple pipes make sure to oversize them a bit. Its the volume of the column of air plus the additional friction of the added surface area. No easy answer here as far as numbers. This is from what I have read and still trying to understand. Like Gary says single pipe will look cleaner. IMHO

RG, morning......  Surface area to volume....

                                    Circumference-- inches             Volume--cubic inches

2" pipe 20" long....          6.28                                                     62.83

4" pipe 20" long             12.57                                                  251.33

The 4" pipe has 2 times the surface area and 4 time the volume.....  Reduced friction loss..... 

Sooooo, If you used 4 each 2" exhaust stacks to get the same volume as 1 each  4", you would have 2 X's the surface area for friction.....

so here is the smoke stack in the grill...after I got it in I started a fire inside the pit to just see how it draws and also if you notice the green paint...I wanted to paint it a john deere green as I dont just want a black grill...everyone has one of those so I found a farm equipment paint and put it on...I wanted to see how it was gonna act..bubble melt crack or whatever. The good news is that even with a fire going on inside the pit the paint held up amazingly. so when its done you will see a green grill...yayyyyyy

here is the back plate of the fb...got the hole cut and put on to the grill...now its the rest of the fb and the guts...once again shooting for before thanksgiving

Paint on the cook chamber is rarely an issue with temp..  Just the firebox.  Anything less than 1200° paint will likely bubble up and float away.

sigh.....here I am crossing my fingers and it turns out that I never needed to. Well its better to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I'm thinking that the fb is gonna have to be black due to the lack of color for high heat paint..unless someone knows of a brand that has some colors other than black? (crossing my fingers again)
