5" is good or a little more is better   from reverse plate to grate.

Exhaust stack is too small of Diameter (4")      run a 6" .  I use Dave's numbers and they work fine.

3" to 5"  with a 1" fall away from the firebox is what I shoot for on the R/F plate distance. I agree the 4" exhaust is too small I would go 6".@ 24" tall.
