Repost , I think I posted it the wrong place earlier. Hi everyone. New to the group but have been snooping around for a little. Started an octagonal reverse build today. Everything is 3/16” thick. 10” sides except the verticals sides are 12”. FB is 18x18x23. Should come to around 85ish gallons. Will post more as build continues. Novice welder so please be easy.

I have 3.5” id schedule 40 pipe for chimney. Do I need 2 stacks. I kind of like the look of 2 but not sure if too much

There was another octagon build a while back and it turned out pretty cool. Read through the tutorial on the stack. There is a lot about getting that right.

Got the fire box built and attached.

Made some headway and got it mounted to the frame. Next step is doors and a chimney. Don’t mind the messy barn. Brought it to a family members house much closer to home. Again ignore the welding (I have a ton of grinding to do)

Looks good so far! The stacks seem to be more of a personal preference for 1 or 2. As long as your volumes are correct, make it as you wish.

Wished I would have thought to mount the fire box to the cook chamber on it's side like that. Son of a ... Nice looking build so far. Just started a post on the 48" octagon build that is very similar. Send me a pm if you have any ideas/thoughts. It looks like you are in a similar place as I am.

I wanted the extra height on the FB so I could cut a lid and make a grilling/searing area. What thickness did you use on yours. This is 3/16. I’ll update some photos tomorrow

So here is an update. Got the doors done, FB vent done, 1 of 2 cooking grates done, chimney done. Decided to go with 4x6 thin walled pipe. Still have a lot to do but really wanted to get some fire rolling in it
