Over the last week or so I've been researching thermometers. The probe on my free MES is a few degrees off. I have it narrowed down to two. Before the past few weeks I had never heard of Inkbird. The more I read about their product, I like, I also like because it looks like a good product in my price point.

The two contenders are the IRF-4S and the IBT-4XS. I like the 4XS because of the price. However I have read reviews the people have had difficulties with the app they use with it. The 4S I like because it everything is already connected and I don't need to worry about wifi or anything like that. I am sure there a lot more pros/cons to each one. I'm a newbie with this and just want something to meet my needs and last for a little bit. See if I can't make this hand-me-down MES a little better.

i have the iIF-4S . i had a blue tooth , got fed up up with app updates and it dropping out.
i tested the IRF-4S distance . It will go over the 1500 feet ( I don't y u would but it works)
also it will never need to be updated, JMO

I have the Inkbird 4xs +the 6xs. Love both of them. Price wise and accuracy. I have no trouble with the app. I can go all over my house and not lose the bluetooth signal. I also have more expensive therms as well, and the Inkbird products are just as accurate. For me, consistent accuracy is most important.

I’ve got the 6 probe Bluetooth model and at the farthest point in my house from the smoker the Bluetooth connection is very sketchy. I wish I went with the ir model instead.

Thank you. This helps me out as well. I was worried about the bluetooth throughout the house so I narrowed it down to the RF and Wi-Fi. I think I am leaning towards the RF now, as it seems the Wi-Fi may be an overkill and less stable than the RF.

The Bluetooth app is bad, but it's not necessarily inkbirds fault. All the BT thermos use the same app platform and it's just not very good.

However, a member recently suggested the SOLIS THERMO app. It does work considerably better than the other apps I've found for the BT thermos.

Thanks I’ll give that a try, I thought Bluetooth with an app would be great so I could set low temp alarms for a long smoke. Sometimes I get a one way connection or a disconnect and the alarm doesn’t go off like it should. I will say though that the inkbird itself is an excellent product.

Yeah, I think that's what we all thought! It's funny though, it seems like some people have zero issues with the software. Guess we're not those people.

Did you ever decide which one to get?

I decided the IRF-4S. With WiFi being spotty at my house at times and possible app problems I think it best to remove those two variables, and they're on sale for the next 23 hours.

Where is the sale?

Nevermind, I guess it was an April discount.
