Just a bit of venting so I thought his was the right place to do it. I recently joined a couple BBQ and Blackstone groups on Facebook. What a mistake that was. Some posters gave good answers but the commenters were simply awful. Full of derision and hostility to everyone on nearly every subject. I quit the groups on Facebook in disgust and counted myself as very fortunate that I found this group on Smoking Meat Forums. Never on this site have I seen anything but courteous and helpful advice on any subject I have explored. That said, I want to let the forum members here know how much I appreciate you and the fantastic camaraderie that exists on this site. Thank you!

I recently got back on FB just so I could keep up with pics of the grandbabies. And yeah I joined a group on there for smoking meat. You are so right!!! The folks there can be kinda snarky. Thank God for you folks here that are nice and willing to help one another!!!!!

I don't do Facebook at all, I tried it about 15 years ago and after a month or two deleted my account. Anyways, from the few comments so far it made something click in my head.

A couple months ago a guy I guess you could say I know somewhat were talking and BBQ got brought up. Come to find out he dabbles from time to time, just starting out. Since I think he is a nice gentlemen I told him about SMF, that he should check it out.

His immediate facial expression was kind of shocking to me He said that he wasn't interested because he tried a couple before and told me about rude behavior, being berated for asking a rookie question. He also said a few choice words that I'll leave out, you get it!

I assured him SMF was nothing like that. I wondered though, what forums he was looking at? Now I am pretty sure he was talking one of these "groups". I'll ask him when I run into him next.

Never had facespace but I've played on many forums over the years. I can count on one hand and have fingers left over for forums like this one! plus it's the only one I've ever been willing to pay for!

Never had a faceplant account and probably never will, but the rudeness and snarky comments aren't reserved for just those BBQ pages. I am still a member of a huge fishing and boating forum that had 400,000 members last time I checked. I quit participating for all the same reasons and haven't even looked at the site in a couple of years. Really makes me appreciate how this forum is run...

I was off FB for a few years and decided to get back on to connect with some folks I wanted to talk to. That part has worked out well. My issue was that I expanded my scope on how I used FB and I was just dismayed at how rude a lot of folks are on that site. I thought the BBQ community would be similar to this one but was I sure wrong on that one. Glad to see that I am not the only one who has realized that.

Spacebook BBQ groups are the sewer pit of social media!!
I’m on a couple pages and will never post or ask a question of any kind

I belong to 3 forums that are like people here. Here, the Jeep wrangler TJ and a Triumph TR6 car forum. The Corvette forum and a surf fishing forum, not so much.

I don't have Facebook either. When I tell people that, they look at me like I just kicked their dog 😂. But the friendly folks and great wisdom in this forum is exactly why I stick around. This really is a great place. When I tell my wife about a new recipe or show her a picture of some delicious looking meal on here she always says " is that on your Meatbook". Lol

No need for TwitBook, FacePlant, InstaIdiot or any other. I’m what you call an Unsocial Medium.
This forum however is THE hands-down best. Thank you members, mods and Jeff for an outstanding resource!
My wife and I argue that this place is social media, I say it is just informational. I also don't do much on Facelift and have nothing to do with instascam, twotter and the rest.
