Extend the stack

Will the pit get hotter if I extend the stack. Right now my char griller has a 7 inch stock stack. What will happen if I extend it a foot?

If you extend it up you should get better air flow, if you extend it down to within 4-6 inches of the cooking grate it may help to even out temps in the cooking chamber.  If you want to make the CG add more fuel, that's been my experience.
