I think ECB's  are a good smoker for people starting out. They get a Bad Wrap, but what do expect for $69 or $79 bucks.

The positive thing about an ECB, besides being cheap, is whoever buys one will learn how to smoke. They are pretty labor intensive, They don't hold heat very well, limited on space, weather is a huge factor, and unless you do some mods, you pretty well don't have any way of regulating anything. BUT !!!!   it will make you a better smoker because of all their faults.. Even though I have an RF on occasion I'll get out the old ECB.  In my early years I couldn't tell you how many briskets, pork butts, ribs , chicken and turkeys I smoked on my ECB

Agree 100%! I cooked on an ECB and got pretty good with controlling it. My mods were all pretty solid and I knew what to do and when to do it most of the time...

After jumping to a WSM earlier this summer, things got too easy. I still have the ECB tucked away next to the grill for times when I need more capacity.

Just don't have the heart to pitch this one that hasn't been used for years:

After getting the urge from indirect heat grilling?

This little puppy got me started.

Then the addiction took hold!

Good luck and good smoking.

This is pretty neat, All the people who started with this type of unit.  That's why I said they get a Bad Wrap, I wonder how many of these are out there ?  Another thing back when we went camping we always took the ECB.  You know with all the different smokers out there today and the selection people have, these companies should be thanking the ECB companies for getting so many people started and graduating up their smokers. I'll get off my soap box now, just wanted to give credit to the smoker that got me started.

I've always said they're the VW bug of smokers. Everybody had one, has a lot of fond memories, and is glad they now have something better. [emoji]128516[/emoji]

Perfectly spoken man. I started out smoking on my Dad's ECB and thank God I don't have to do that anymore. He still does even though I've tried a couple times to show him how much easier my Masterbuilt 30" electric is. May have to get him one along with an Maverick 732 for Christmas and nudge him a bit.

Had mine out the other night, just the bottom part. I sit the smoke chamber on the patio and sit the bottom on top of that to use as a charcoal grill, cooked steaks
