Hey all, I'm a retired FF, so smoke is not new to me, smelled plenty of it over 28 yrs in the Fire Dept but none of it was as good smelling as what most of you smell on your cookers. Never personally owned a smoker but currently looking in my Area (Cleveland TN). Looking for a smallish smoker, open to suggestions.

I'm with Holly. There are quite a few things you should think through before diving in, and his questions about sum it up. I would add to the list "How often do you think you'll use it?" Stick burners and offset have a steeper learning curve but arguably turn out the best product (I did say arguably). Electrics are the easiest but produce a slightly different flavor profile from pure wood.

Once you think through some of the questions, it will be much easier to make a decision.

It would be used for family get togethers and smoking often other than that. I am used to a larger Lang, but understand the learning curve of using a smaller off set like say, the 36. Pretty sure the 36 would fit my needs as it seems to hold quite a bit of meat at one time. I don't have a good source of power and would have to run power cords to cooking site, so really not interested in electric. I don't mind tending it but it would be nice to have to do so more than every hour or so :) Ready built is best for me and being on fixed income, always have to watch the budget .
Thank you for your reply

WSMs are also a good choice. They come in three sizes. Friendly to the wallet, built to last many years, good customer service and allot of folks here use them - so info and help is readily available. Their a charcoal smoker.

Since you have had experience with a Lang, I think I would look for a 36.
I've had one for years & it's a great little smoker.
However I also own a Weber 22.5 & it is a great smoker too, but won't hold nearly the amount of meat the 36 does.
