Does a smoker have to be round??  or could you make a square box for the bottom and the top or lid could be half of an octagon??

I teach at a vocational center and with the year winding down the kids are always looking for projects.  I teach small engine but share my shop with the welding class.  Figured I have access to alot of steel there and students that are eager to make sparks fly.  We have lots of 16 gauge steel and 1" angle iron and was thinking could make some type of smoker from these materials.

You should be able to have just about any shape as long as there is proper intake and exhaust to make the heat/smoke flow and heat the unit evenly.
