Does anyone know what this is?

I own a Trager Pro Series 34. In the dark, I tried to remove the top grate. I never had a problem until last night. It was a real pain in the ass. The grate came off, but I didn't notice this until after I shined the flashlight on it.

Any idea what this piece sticking up is? I have never seen this piece before. And as I said, never had an issue when removing the top rate.

The unit was not damaged. Temps were fine. No issues with closing the cover.

Any ideas?

Looks like the controls temp probe.

That should be straight up otherwise could get an off reading if leaning towards the side of smoker.

No biggie. I'll fix it. As long as it didn't break off. Small bend. No worries.

I would check accuracy before and/or after.

I assume bending it is bad and straightening (bending again) is worse.

Yep, that's the chamber temp probe the controller uses to monitor the chamber temp.
