So I got a dot with Alexa about a year ago. I've relocated it now out to my cooking area.

I like the timer function. I know there are a million other timers out there but when the music stops, it gets attention.

As I am getting older, I've started using a Thermopop instant read too. I'm amazed I never killed anyone cooking just based ontime... For example, I have a few chicken breasts going for the better half. I figured based on time they were done. Thermopop says 139°....

I guess you really do get wiser with age.

No Alexa here, heck I don't even have a cell phone. I will say your chicken looks good.

Point for sure

NO talk box in my house. The smart phone (that is mostly shut off for everything) has a nice timer feature.

Exact opposite with me on grilling chicken. I used to cremate into shoe leather before I got a probe thermometer. Properly cooked is much better and wife agrees.
Learning my lesson, I gifted my daughter and son with probe thermometers.
Daughter uses hers all the time.
Son used to use it, but is currently directed by his fiance that is a much better cook.

I think you are aging your chicken too long to attract that many flies?
Caught a mouse in the breezeway yesterday and dumped in the outside garbage can. The rats with (tiny) wings were thick this morning until I covered the can

Recently it was noted Alexa is recording your EVERY conversation in your house and a huge team of decipher folks work on your conversations...

Only when plugged in. My son has one and plays music on it. When he is done,, he unplugs it. I wont allow it plugged in all the time.

Adam, morning.... Good luck with that precaution... I would put it on a timer so it could be operated for a preset time and then automatically shut off... They are selling your information...

All our smart phones have camera and mic blockers on them. Laptop cameras and mics are covered. Nothing else smart in our house, except me and my wife, and she'll say I'm half right.

I don't have a Cell phone, but I do have an Alexa remote with my Fire TV.
So far I only use it to find good movies & to calculate from C° to F° on YouTubes using C°.

I have tape over the camera in my MacBook Pro, but when I start worrying about Alexa listening to my conversations is about the same time to Cash in my Chips.

The closest thing I have to a Alexa is a Daiwa "Lexa" bait casting fishing reel. Last week during the reel's maiden voyage out on the ocean, I whispered to it...."Lexa, show me some Ling Cod". Came home with 3 monsters Lings.

LOL---My Favorite Trout rod & reel is my "Daiwa Minispin".
Love that little thing!!

Chris I think you might be the last person I know that doesn't have a cell phone. My grandparents refused for years and wouldn't even buy a VCR back in the day because it was too high tech lol

The wife does have a trac-phone that gets used for our trips down south. Currently we have 3 rotary phones that get swapped in and out depending on the wifes mood, one wireless, and one Waltons type phone that we can answer calls but can't call out on. I've been burned a few times when the car breaks down, but not often enough for me to want a cell. I didn't need one in the first 58 years of my life - I guess I don't need one now.

I did have a VCR back in the day so at least I was ahead of the curve compared to your grandparents :emoji_laughing:

Lmao, y'all are some paranoid folks. I'm not saying that there isn't the possibility that you/me/we aren't being spied on, but I don't know about y'all but I live a pretty uninteresting and relatively legal life. I have nothing to hide, so I don't stress if my camera/mic is available. IMO there's a whole lot more to worry about than the random FBI agent that might(teeny tiny microscopic percentage) be listening in on me. :emoji_laughing:

As for the topic, I don't currently use Alexa or any devices like that. Eventually when I can afford to move into a newer home, I will be going the smart home route though. I love ease of access, and tech is my friend.
