Do you trust the pop out timers on chickens?

I am smoking a whole chicken tonight and was wondering how accurate the little plastic pop out timers are. I am using my thermo, but was just wondering if anyone has ever tested them to see exactly what temp they pop @?

Always yank them things out and throw em away! Use a good digital, much more reliable! I shoot for right near 170* for mine.

You are correct sir...my thermo showed 170 and that little sucker still hadn't popped out.

Travcoman45 has it right. I NEVER use those pop-up things. ALWAYS put the probe of a good digital thermo in the thigh and breast and let the TBS roll.

You know, in one of the online stores I was browsing not to long ago, they had these things for sale! Price wasn't bad, but what a waste of money! Never do work, should save up mine and maybe put em on ebay or somtin!

There is a metal alloy in the tip of the popup that melts at 185º
That's over done it only needs to 165º

I don't like the idea of plastic in my smoker, I rip em out. Plus, when you think of liability and lawsuits, there is no way they would set one of those up so that you can have a moist chicken, they don't want to get sued:-)
