Heey there,

I'm new here but I have this question I can only ask people who built their own barbecues. As I didn't manage to find any contact details of somebody who has more experience in this, I thought it would be best to ask a community.

I've got this project built in mind for making a no weld double walled barrel kamado (like the Weber Summit charcoal)

I tend to make my projects more difficult than nessecary so feel free to point me in another direction.

I like to be able to cut the airflow by closing the outer barrel entirely. To me, that means I am only going to cut in the inner barrel so that a can make the outer barrel completely airtight.

The only way to get airflow from underneath is through the gap between the 2 barrels. I am going to add a fan to increase the airspeed but I do think I can figure that out later on. (I'll make another post if I don't manage)

I do need some help on the following: as barrels ar quite tall, I'd like to make a smoker with different levels just like the kamado joe. As the lid is flat, I will need to think of something to reach the lower grates. To do that, I was thinking about how I could raise the grillgates so that they come out of the grill.

To solve this I was fist thinking about something similar as shown on this page: https://pin.it/c5ya5sryl7qmtj
Unfortunately, part if this system sticks outside the barrel. But I do need to close the lid somehow. And the outer barrel isn't airtight anymore if I want the axle with this swing arm to fit.

Does anyone know a different system or invention where I can adjust the grates but which remains inside the barrel so that I can close the outer barrel airtight?

If you have any questions about my ideas, feel free to ask.
