I use an ET-73
http://www.amazon.com/Maverick-RediC.../dp/B0007ZPO7M

Just noticed the incredible price drop on them, almost 50% off! Think I might order me another.

Used one like the one you bought, worked great and the battery went forever but make sure not to leave it out in the rain, might not break it but you won't be able to see the numbers properly until it dries out.

Same here...ET-73

At $34 I may have to pick up another one as well, Great back up. of corse I am working on a second smoker.

I have several and yes a maverick-72 single probe. But I also have a couple of others and one is from wally world it's not the one that you have it works well and I have a pyrex one and a taylor one and a couple more. But the main thing is that you test them in boiling water. then you know it's working right and thats all that matters right?

And don't forget that the boiling temperature of water may be different depending on your current altitude.
Learned that one the hard way when we moved out here to Colorado!
